To take part in Creative Commons is to allow music to live and evolve. On this site are all of the source tracks, lyrics, and chords from each song on the new Abscondo album, "Victory in a Landlocked Sea". Listen to the album on Jamendo if you aren't already familiar with it.
The idea behind Creative Commons (Open Source) is that we are better together than we are alone. To that end, I'm inviting other musicians to use these tracks freely and create any derivative works you wish. Perhaps your interpretation fits the songs better than mine. Maybe your vocal brings the right element to the song. You can add sounds, take sounds away, redo the electric gutar, change the lyrics, I don't care! Get creative and make this yours. Why?
My version of the album has already been released on Jamendo. However, the commercial release is set for February 28th, 2012. This commercial release (through CD Baby and sold through all on-line digital sales channels) will include the best version of each track (whether mine, yours, or somebody else's). If your track is chosen, I will compensate you for 50% of my sales (1/24 of the album sales for each of your tracks selected). So let me know what you come up with by posting a link to your song on this site under "comments". That will allow for me and for community members to comment on your work and eventually decide on the best version of each track for the commercial release of the album.
Of course you are also free to do anything you wish with your version of the tracks (and with my versions as well)! Put it up on Jamendo or wherever however you wish (as long as you give me credit for the songwriting and for any of my tracks you use). I ask that you consider using one of the following artist naming conventions:
- If you are redoing the whole album, please use ""Your Band" Abscondo" (so if your band's name is "Sungod" then the band name should be "Sungod Abscondo"). You can use the same album name and even the same cover art (maybe consider changing the shade / brightness of the cover to match your style?)
- If you are using my source material for one or a few songs in your album, just include "feat. Abscondo" and give all proper credit.
Finally, if you use your version (or my version) of any of these tracks for commercial purposes, I ask that you compensate me the fair percentage of whatever you earn in royalties. Please contact me to discuss this. Just to summarize:
- Use any of the source material on this site however you wish for non-commercial purposes (releasing on Jamendo is ok, using in video projects, podcasts, etc.)
- Attribute your derivative works to me, "Abscondo" in an appropriate way
- Post a link to your version of the songs (or email to me) to be considered for the commercial release of the album on February 28th, 2012
- Check with me or Jamendo to use my tracks (or your derivative works) for commercial purposes and we will quickly and easily agree on appropriate terms
- Have fun and let your unique style come through!
