August 2019

Everything that has been causing you misery has been constructed with lies.

We live in a web of lies. There are the lies others tell us and we believe. There are also the lies we tell ourselves. Then there are the lies we tell others which seem to offer a solution to a problem or a way to get what we want. But all lies end in crisis.

What is “crisis” other than the light of truth exposing a lie? If there were no lies to begin with, what crisis could there be? You would live in truth. Truth, by definition, cannot change or be threatened—it cannot lead to crisis, misery or suffering.

To live in peace is to live within the calm safety of truth. When there are no lies anywhere in your life, then you are free. Nothing can threaten you. But, to get there, you’ll have to start eliminating all untruth wherever it may exist in your life. You will need to be perfectly honest with yourself, perfectly honest about whether you believe any of the tired lessons of the world, and perfectly honest in all your communication with everyone.

This shift toward perfect honesty, for a time, will bring about painful changes in your life. This is the undoing of ego, the shedding of all the lies that have kept you suffering. There is no way to awaken to consciousness, to enter the kingdom of heaven, to end your suffering if you do not start with perfect honesty. Anything less than perfect honesty is belief in separation; the idea that you still see some value in keeping yourself apart from the force of life, itself. This is the sickness that we will cure with perfect honesty.

We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole lives waiting to start living. (Eckhart Tolle)

Maybe you believe you will be happy someday. You may be beautiful, young, single and free…yet somehow you are miserable because you are waiting to get married and have children. Someday you will have a beautiful family, plenty of money, maybe a great career. Then maybe you will put off living your dreams until after retirement. Always waiting for the future to start living.

Waiting means this: you want the future. You don’t want the present.

I know so many people who live this way. I want nothing more than to be present with these people, to experience bliss, to try something new, to laugh, to grow, to come alive. But they are out of reach—too busy planning for the future, hiding from the present, resisting what is, rejecting love, wealth and abundance now, where it exists.

Alright, I’ll be patient. I can wait for you another day, another month, another 10 years—but I suspect that despite your strong belief in the future, when I check back you will still be waiting. You will still be cut-off from the present, still unsatisfied, still unwilling to connect, to accept, to trust, to try, to let go of fear and to enter presence.

Hey, I’m right here, in the present moment. I see you, I get you, I know what you want. I might even know how to provide it or help you get it. But you are cutting of the possibility of everything you want by resisting and rejecting everything that is. You are dreaming, and dreams never come true until they are fully shared. This sharing must happen between us, in the present moment, the field where everything is, has always been, and always will be.

“Give up waiting as a state of mind. Snap out of it. Come into the present moment.” We continue, in this present moment, tomorrow and each day after that.

Stop thinking and end your problems (Tao Te Ching)

"What difference between yes and no? What difference between success and failure? Must you value what others value? Avoid what others avoid? How ridiculous." -Tao Te Ching

Problems arise from the realm of perception—which is the need to judge, the impulse to evaluate good days and bad days or good news and bad news. But these mental evaluations don’t mean anything.

To label, judge, or evaluate is to place faith in the ego even as the ego does not know what it wants or how to get it. Sometimes you encounter a setback which turns out later to be the best thing that could ever have happened. Take another example, you might celebrate getting a job you wanted. Then, months later, it becomes a source of misery.

In truth, there is no way to know what is good or bad. There are too many variables, too many unknowns, too many factors that lie beyond the realm of perception. Most of us are lost in hopes and fears even as we are blind to how everything is. “Hope and fear are both phantoms that arise from thinking of the self.” Tao Te Ching (13)

The master learns not to evaluate reality. She is present. He accepts everything that is happening as just something that is happening. She stops the mind from judging, complaining, or even celebrating. He says yes to life and follows the signs. What is just is. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

Rest does not come from sleeping, but from waking. (A Course in Miracles).

“The world is very tired because it is the idea of weariness.” The idea of the world is that our purpose is to sacrifice. We think that our goal is to tolerate the maximum level suffering and discomfort because of rewards and punishments.

Schools keep little children in frustrated obedience for too long. Employers keep us at work even longer and pay us as little as possible. Governments make strict laws and tax us to the highest level we can stand. Relationships and marriages come with too many demands and expectations in return for too little joy and bliss. We are asked to sacrifice, always sacrifice, and we have complied as though our lives have no purpose or value.

All this sacrifice is making us so tired that sleep doesn’t even help. We live for the weekends, but just as the dark clouds of sacrifice part and any inspiration appears we are sent back into the sacrifice. In a way this is done to us, in a way we do it to ourselves.

Tolerance for sacrifice is not the purpose of your life. Furthermore, you will never reach happiness through sacrifice, rather; only still more sacrifice. The only way to break free from this dreadful cycle is to remember your spiritual identity and simply begin to live in truth.

You are spirit, not the voice in your mind. Your first priority is to feel good now, not in the past or future. Love is everything, and through love comes perfect knowledge, freedom and abundance. You forgive yourself and others. You break free from this dreadful isolation, you stop competing, attacking, and being right. You connect, you accept others, you give, you create regardless of what anybody thinks.

Now you can accept, without any judgment, the drastic changes coming your way. Now you have chosen the way of spirit and this requires no sacrifice. Rest in joy.

“You are the light of the world with me. Awaken and be glad.” We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

Quotes from A Course in Miracles

To have all, give all to all. (A Course in Miracles)

This statement makes no sense to the left-brain, logical mind. If you give away something, how can you have all of it?

But we’re not talking about “things”. Things have little value and are of no concern. We’re talking about having all. Having all implies something of real value, something true, beautiful, meaningful, eternal.

Even the lower mind can understand that when love, beauty or happiness is shared, it is not diminished. It becomes more real. It inspires greater happiness and love in the other. It is increased through sharing. Also, when your best creations are shared, you are rewarded. Creating real value for others is the source of abundance, wealth and prosperity.

To give all is to share that which is most valuable. Be truly helpful, be a light of love to all, create that which is useful, or that which inspires joy, happiness, and bliss.

True giving is the same as true receiving. To receive love, give love. To receive wealth, offer all your talents to all. This is the source of abundance. This is healing. This is happiness. True happiness and joy must be created through sharing. Sharing is the giving that happens between two who realize they are one.

Poverty and lack are rooted in an unwillingness to give. To have all, give all to all. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner. (Tao Te Ching)

A core human need is to be admired, loved, and respected. To fulfill this need, we seek approval by crafting an image of ourselves for others. This is a choice to become conditioned, trained, and controlled in exchange for a few occasional words of approval. But does it work? Is the experience of approval ever anything more than shallow? And what value does approval even have if we know, on some level, that we are not presenting our authentic selves?

Set yourself free from the social norms, the expectations, the normal ways of the world which you were taught. There is nothing you can do to be truly loved, admired, or respected. But there is something you can be: yourself.

When you are content to be simply yourself, and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you.

-Tao Te Ching, 8

Be the light that you are and not the false reflections. Choose the freedom of truth rather than the lies that lead to bondage. We continue tomorrow and day after that.

Stress is caused by being here but wanting to be there. (Eckhart Tolle)

“Or being in the present but wanting to be in the future. It’s a split that tears you apart inside.”

That terrible feeling of stress, frustration, and anxiety is your body telling you that something is wrong. You have forgotten that now is all there is, all there ever was, and all there ever will be.

To be stressed is to believe that you need a different set of external circumstances before you can be happy. But if you are seeking liberation in external form, you will continue to seek for a lifetime—experiencing only brief, temporary relief from the agony. You’ll feel split, torn apart, like something is dreadfully wrong.

“To create and live with such a split is insane. The fact that everyone else is doing it doesn’t make it any less insane.”

When you feel that you have no power, like you are adrift on a stormy sea—it can only be that you have forgotten what is real. Your faith is in external form, in idols, in the realm of the impermanent. This is an error and it can easily be corrected. You do have power in every situation. You can either leave the situation, do something about it, or fully surrender to it and let it be. Those are your options. Why stress?

You cannot be threatened by any external situation or condition imposed upon you. You are the source of power because you are the force of life. What is real about you cannot be threatened by anyone or anything. Remember this as you go deeply into the fear, the stress, the anxiety. Access the power of now, know that everything is happening for you not to you, and stress will dissolve. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

Quotes from The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Humans have just one superpower—the power to create.

“If we closely observe the activities of nature, we will find that there is only one process going on. And that process is one of continuous creation, of procreation, of creating new and different self-forms.” -Osho

We are life, and of course the same is true of us. We were given these minds and bodies for one purpose: the purpose of creating.

Let’s start with the sex drive. The need for sex is nothing other than the most basic urge to create. To resist sexual desire is to resist life. Why not accept and embrace it fully? How can we rise to the higher forms of creation if we cannot even embrace the most basic?

Moving beyond this most basic power, we have a superpower—creative powers far exceeding any known life form. We have hands to make things, minds to imagine what does not yet exist, and language powerful enough to make concepts felt and understood. We can write, speak, make music, develop technology, paint, draw, invent systems, entertain, inform…we are perfectly designed life forms and there’s almost nothing we can’t do.

So what do we do with this superpower? Here’s the thing: the mind is always creating and teaching. We have no choice. Even when you are completely uninspired; perhaps watching television, gossiping, or arguing—you are still creating. You may be creating negative stories in your mind, problems, or issues—but you are creating! Anything done in the egoic state is, of course, a miscreation. To remain in the ego is to fall beneath your calling and potential while creating misery for yourself and others.

To know spirit is to let your powers inspire you just as they inspire us all. You are extraordinary. Embrace your power to create and know what it is for. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

Love can only be born out of emptiness. Only a void is capable of merging with another void.

To find love, we attempt to present our best selves. We make ourselves more attractive, seek a higher status, and show off. In so doing, we are seeking love in the realm of the ego—the realm of form.

But love is not of form. Love is invisible nothingness and emptiness. When you think of the universe, you realize that all the blackness, the “nothingness” of space is merged together as one. There are no walls separating nothingness. But the stars, the planets, the “things” that exist in the universe are alone and cannot be merged. Two forms cannot merge; but they can be connected by nothingness just as two people can be connected in love.

Love has nothing to do with the physical, the tangible, or the measurable. No photo can show it. No poem can fully explain it. No physical act can perfect it. Even as jealous couples foolishly try to hold onto it, love cannot be controlled or possessed because it is not a thing.

Seek love in the realm of form and you will never find it. To know love is to know spirit. When two souls merge in a space of no thought, no past, no future, no plans, no “I” and “you”—that is true love. Love is the transcendence of the ego and the remembrance of how to exist in spirit. This kind of love is as simple as breathing, yet still incredibly rare in this world because we have been taught something other.

If this is the love you desire, you must first love yourself. If you are trying to get love from another, you are seeking love where it does not exist—in the realm of form. Remember that you are the nothingness, which is eternal, unchanging, and cannot be threatened. This is the realm in which everything you seek exists. Here love is infinite, we are perfect and complete, and all jealousy and possessiveness erode because non-matter cannot be threatened. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.
