I am here only to be truly helpful. (A Course in Miracles)

37

I am

Means consciousness, God, silent awareness beyond physical form, the spirit, the soul, essence, our true identity.

here only

Means in the present moment. I have let go of the past and I know that the future is not real. Everything that is, and ever was, is here now. The now is the field in which spirit plays as form changes. Here spirit is still and constant while matter is unstable.

to be

Meaning the reason for our existence as souls who are having a temporary, human experience.

truly helpful.

To be truly helpful is to end ego-domination, creating the conditions in which bodies become learning devices for the mind, and the mind is set free to do its work as the known universe’s best mechanism for creation.

The truly helpful are the miracle workers who end fear, spread love, and heal—restoring proper functioning to all.  We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

I am here only to be truly helpful.

A Course in Miracles

Little faith is put in them whose faith is small. (Tao Te Ching)

36

“Faith” is one of those words (much like the word “God”) that has been so badly misused it has almost lost all meaning. No word is truth, but when language is used properly, it can point to truth.

There are two basic types of words: “love words” and then the opposite, which are “fear words”. Faith is a love word and it means the same thing as awakening, awareness, consciousness, permanence, or freedom. True faith is a knowing awareness absent of doubt—an unshakable alignment with unconditional love. You know that you are spirit and not ego. This knowing is unchanging and cannot be threatened by external conditions.

The world tests us. Life is supposed to be hard so that we learn faith. Without faith, others cannot trust you. You cannot be depended upon because you can’t even rely on yourself. You attack, blame, and shame as if you were teaching something. You separate yourself from others and fall into depression. You lie, you cheat, you rationalize as you carelessly harm. These errors, this insanity is considered normal behavior because normal people do not have faith. Faith is not an abstract concept; rather, a state that is easily obtained when you escape ego.

When you know who you are in a way that is unchanging, you do not fall back to the errors of ego. You remain at the center of the wheel, calmly and quietly serving others, effortlessly channeling your energy to the expansion of creation. You have let go of fear because you are pure life—a ray of light. Now others can easily put their faith in you, they trust you, you are helpful, you can lead. Faith is success in life. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

Because he is no competitor, no one in the world can compete with him. (Tao Te Ching)

You cannot lose at a game you refuse to play. Only by playing does a game seem real.

To believe in competition is to believe that receiving comes through taking, that we are separate and on our own. To believe this is to limit our vision.

Competition is a fool’s game designed for the ego. By escaping the ego and identifying with spirit, you simply forget that competition is a thing. From the enlightened perspective, there is no better than or lesser than. Comparison between people is meaningless when we are already perfect and complete.

35

What matters is what you are here to do. Do that well. Serve others, don’t try to defeat them. Give to others and receive gratefully in return. Do what you do best and do it to the best of your abilities. Teach others to do the same.

Giving and receiving is the same act. Create value in this eternal present moment and receive it here in return. Have faith, have patience. Time is irrelevant here. This is the path toward abundance in both the material world and on the level of the soul. Everything you truly value is found in joining with another, while competition brings poverty by pulling us apart.

Because he is no competitor, no one in the world can compete with him. (Tao Te Ching)

Become like a fool who is blind to the idea of competition—as though competition never existed. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

You’ve been trapped in there with a maniac. (Michael A. Singer)

Just watch what that voice has to say. You’ll be shocked at what you see.

-Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer

Sometimes you get so frustrated it feels like you don’t know what you’re going to do with yourself. Look a little deeper into this statement and you might ask: who is the “I” and who is the “myself” that I am referring to? Are there two of me? Might one of these entities be the real me?

This realization is a crack in the ego. Now you realize that you are a silent awareness who can watch the voice in your head. You are no longer tricked to believe that the voice is you. Michael Singer calls this voice “your roommate”.

Your goal today is simple: try to observe the voice. You might find that it never shuts up. You’ll also find that it probably isn’t very nice. It is quite abusive to you, saying things to you that nobody would dare say out loud. You probably can’t even brush your teeth, take a shower, or make breakfast without the voice saying something nasty. Try not to let it ruin your mood because it isn’t real.

I don’t know whether it is possible to completely shut out the voice for long periods of time, as I have not been very successful at this. Instead, I simply observe my ego thoughts. If my voice wants to speak up, I try to be accepting and don’t resist. But I never take my roommate seriously. I just watch and smile at it.

Can you identify as the observer and not the voice? Have you learned not to let the voice affect your emotions? At a minimum, surely you have learned not to respond to the voice with action. This is wisdom. This is enlightenment. You are already there.

Life is supposed to be hard, but now in your awakened state you have learned not to allow your roommate to cause problems for you. Life is easier, slower, filled with grace, with moments of beautiful presence. Your relationships are loving. You achieve more with less resistance. This is success. This is the way. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

If you ever felt inspired by a purpose or calling, you know the feeling of spirit working through you. (Wayne Dyer)

Inspiration is alignment with the spiritual realm. It is not the same thing as excitement. You may be excited about buying a new house or car, it may make you tingly inside to imagine becoming rich or famous, but that isn’t inspiration. That is only the excitement of ego. Ego-led action requires great effort and willpower and then inevitably leads to failure.

“By allowing ego to determine your life path, you deactivate the power of intention.”

The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer

You know that you’ve tapped into the power of intention when you feel inspired about a purpose or calling. Inspiration is the feeling of an invisible force of intention guiding you. You know that it is truly inspiration when you are directed toward creating something or serving others. Your full attention goes toward serving the creation itself. You aren’t trying to create something cool to get famous, you aren’t doing work just for the money; rather, your entire being is focused on service to the creation as an end. Benefits may flow from your purpose or calling, but that isn’t what you care about.

When you find a purpose or calling that inspires you, do it. By following your inspiration, you activate the power of intention. In this state of flow, your talents and abilities shine without effort. That’s because you are channeling a power beyond your ego. You are aligning with universal truth and you are directing your free will properly.

The power of intention has nothing to do with getting; rather, letting the universe inspire you and offering yourself in the service of your ultimate purpose. This can only happen when you first learn to escape the ego. As Wayne Dyer put it, “Intention can’t be accessed through the ego.”

If you know what inspiration feels like, then you are spiritual. You are being called. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

The problems of the mind can’t be solved on the level of the mind. (Eckhart Tolle)

“The study of madness isn’t enough to create sanity.” To the contrary, looking at madness moves one even more deeply into madness. By taking dysfunction seriously, you make it real.

He continues, “The mind, itself, is not dysfunctional. It is a wonderful tool. Dysfunction sets in when you seek yourself in it and mistake it for who you are.”

Who you are, of course, is the silent observer of your mind. You are the consciousness beyond the words, thoughts and form. Becoming aware of your real identity and learning to live from the perspective of consciousness is the path toward healing, health, happiness, meaning, truth, love, joy, peace, I can continue…but these are just words. What you want is to feel good, so look beyond the mind and you will find it. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

I will create no more pain, no more suffering.

Now I know what the ego is and have learned to ignore its insanity by not following its stream of thought.

Now I know that attack—even mild forms such as reward and punishment—only causes more suffering and teaches only more violence.

Now I know that there is nothing and no one to be possessed in this world.  I let go and let all things be.

Now I know that giving and receiving is the same act.

Now I rest in the silence and stillness between all the stuff, all the events, all the noise.

Now I know that the thought system of love contains all knowing. All that is not love is error to be corrected through love.

Now I know that all the universe exists in this present moment—right where it has always been. Time is merely a way to measure the movement of matter and a practical way for humans to function.

Now I know that a stressful and fearful mind is what causes illness and disease.

Now I know that the great Tao, God, or whatever you want to call it, exists within the imperceptible spaciousness within us and throughout the universe.

Now I cannot know what is good or bad. There is a natural balance to things, there is a curriculum, and I need only respond to all of life with love.

Now I have awakened to experience heaven—the spacious dimension of peace that exists beyond human drama.

Now I am free. I will create no more pain and suffering. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

If it were new, it wouldn’t be true.

That which is true is true now, has always been true, and will always be true. Any expression of truth, therefore, is only a reminder of what we already knew the moment we were born, and even before this life and after.

That which is new—for example an innovation, a work of art, a book, an idea—may point to or teach truth; but it cannot be truth or contain it.

All that is new and old takes shape in time and within the realm of form. Form changes, and that which is true does not change or else it is not true.  Truth is in the stillness beyond form and the eternity beyond time. It cannot be grasped, proven, or demonstrated; only known by accessing the spacious dimension of consciousness, spirit, love.

The stuff of this world may be interesting, thrilling, entertaining, or frightening—but none of it is real because it is fleeting, it changes, it is unstable. Know this and you are set free from fear so that you can fulfill your function. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

The lonely ones are those who see no function in the world for them to fill. (A Course in Miracles)

You have a function, which makes you complete in a world where incompletion rules. Your purpose is given to you, and there is an individual life curriculum designed to nudge you toward the fulfillment of your unique function. To awaken is to know your function—and to know that it can only be fulfilled once you align with the thought system of perfect love.

While love is oneness and so is truth, your function is unique because your way of expressing truth is unique. To escape ego is not to lose your personality; rather, to reach your potential by freeing you of the confines of a world designed to limit and control your divine beauty.

You are a unique expression of consciousness—God made flesh. To deny your divinity is to adopt the thought system of ego and to join the army of the lost and disconnected—those who demonstrate all the errors that can only lead to loneliness.

Love is the only escape from loneliness. Your purpose is to love, and to teach love to all, in the unique way that only you are capable of. Your strength can only be through love. The way can only be love—the energy of life, the good with no opposite. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

It is as it is. (Eckhart Tolle)

Something happens to you. Then the voice in your head judges the event as good or bad. You like it or can’t deal with it. It goes to your head or you seek escape. Your emotions take over and your head begins to spin with insane thoughts.

This is how your ego tricks you into believing that it is real, that the ego is your identity, that you must believe in it and obey it. When something happens that attacks your ego, you then consider it bad. When something boosts the ego, you then consider it good. As a result, your life is a roller-coaster of ups and downs (mostly downs). You believe you will be happy someday, when you have everything you desire. But the ego’s mantra is “seek but do not find.” No ego has ever attained lasting happiness.

By giving your ego control, you are assuring yourself of ongoing suffering and misery—which is only temporarily relieved by moments of escape inevitably bound to collapse. This is what the ego does. To find what you seek, it is necessary to escape the ego entirely. This is the only path toward happiness, true success, abundance, love and inner peace.

Instant and eternal happiness is found in inner freedom from external conditions. This is inner peace. Freedom from external conditions. Whatever happens in the world, whatever happens to you, it doesn’t touch you. You know who you truly are and you cannot be threatened. From this viewpoint, your life flows differently.

Now you accept, then act. Now you have made the present moment your friend and ally, not your enemy. Whatever is happening is happening. It is supposed to be happening because it is happening. You can learn to accept it without judgement or negative thoughts—which lead to fear and ego-dominance.

By escaping the ego, you are untouched and are living in a state of inner peace. Now, you can easily understand the reality of what is happening and react to it. Not because it matters all that much what the outcome is, but because the purpose of your life is to spread love, peace, and consciousness. By responding from this place, this is what you do as effortlessly as breathing. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.

It is as it is.
