Vision or judgement is your choice; but never both of these (A Course in Miracles)
To judge is to choose perception over vision—to trust the ego’s concepts of good and bad. Judgment always attempts to make sin real in order to justify the ego’s solution to sin—which is always separation, punishment, blame, shame and other forms of violent attack that the ego believes will teach the lesson of correction. What is the purpose of judgement, and does it ever work?
In truth, the thought system of judgment fails every time and corrects nothing. Any form of attack only teaches violence; thus making the situation worse. Judgment is blinded with its own logic—its own assumptions about human nature and about the motives behind human behavior—and so every response that comes from judgment misses the mark.
The mind likes to judge the errors of others, yet ironically the real error is the act of judgment, itself. All error is, to use the words of Marshall Rosenberg, only a tragic expression of an unmet need. The way to correct error is not to judge; rather, to communicate honestly on the level of the unmet need.
In any situation, there is an optimal, effortless, true path forward. The way is never found through judgment or any other form of separation; rather, only through faith in union on the level of spirit. Vision requires that we respond to error lovingly by communicating on the level of needs with an open heart and mind. In so doing, what starts as conflict leads you both on a path toward inner peace, true happiness, and eternal love.
We remember to choose vision tomorrow and each day after that.
