The mind can neither recognize nor create beauty. (Eckhart Tolle)
Beauty can only be experienced or created in the absence of thought. Daily meditation and awareness of consciousness creates gaps between thoughts. The larger these gaps become, the more capable we become of experiencing not only beauty, but love, positive energy and inspiration.
What is beauty but total surrender to the present moment. Fully-present, even a leafless tree blowing in the January wind becomes an object of great beauty. In this awakened state, all of life becomes art.
In addition, anything created from this state of being contains within it a beauty that is instantly recognizable to others who are perceiving with presence. That which is created with the mind, however, may only occupy other minds or, at best, distract the mind from its worried thoughts by drawing us into an imagined reality. The mind creates that which is shallow and temporary while the heart’s creations are timeless.
The fundamental challenge of our time is to create gaps between thought. As Leonard Cohen once said, “There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” Gaps of thought are the crack through which all joy, bliss, and beauty may enter and connect directly with your spirit. We continue tomorrow and each day after that.
